VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Wood-Ridge - Post 3616 Our Mission- To serve as a public face for our VFW organization in our community by actively working our core programs to bring about a better understanding and appreciation for our Veterans and the freedoms in which we enjoy as a result of their sacrifices and love for this country. By actively promoting and working our activities and programs, we achieve tangible public good will that will result in greater honor for our organization and the Veterans in which we support. Here are some of our core programs and activities that we endeavor to sponsor every year to instill a better understanding of what our Veterans have done and continue to do for us everyday... Adopt-A-Unit- Pairs an Auxiliary with an active military unit stationed overseas. We send care packages with miscellaneous items to them several times a year, along with cards and letters of appreciation. Also, serves as moral support to the families and dependents here left behind when a troop deploys to another country. We supported Sgt. Chris Novello for several years, a resident of Wood- Ridge. Paramus Veterans Home- A Veteran resident home in Paramus NJ whereby a retired/ailing Vet can reside. We send volunteers there several times a month to assist with picnics, pizza parties and bingo games. This enables us to give back to these men and women who have gave so much to this country. We also send cards, letters and gift donations to the home many times a year to comfort and bring some joy to the residents. Cancer Aid and Research- We donate $3.00 per member to the National program for the continued support of cancer research. Also, plan many fund raisers during the year such as bake less bake sales and the selling of VFW pins to contribute to the cause. Americanism and Patriotic Instruction-We sent volunteers to community elementary schools to instruct the students on the traditions, interests and ideals of America. We instruct about pride for our country, respect for the flag and appreciation for the freedom we enjoy as citizens. Children enjoy small gifts as flags, pencils, coloring books and other patriotic items as a take a way to remember their visit with the VFW Auxiliary... National Home for Children- a home set aside for the support of families and or children of military personal who need care and a place to reside. We continually support this home by collecting Campbell’s Labels for Education, tabs from soda can tops and donating monetary gifts. Take part in community services such as Loyalty Day Program, Memorial Day Parade and services, July 4 th celebrations, Veterans’ Day Programs. We support needy families in our community and help to recognize any outstanding citizen and volunteer in the town. We volunteer throughout the community on any long or short term projects as needed to assist the seniors or youth groups.
